Pozzoleone, Italy-based Fizik has launched a new shoe – the Beat – which seeks to blur the lines between road and gravel.
Designed for maximum versatility, the Beat combines a sleek silhouette with the convenience of a two-bolt cleat and is aimed at those who ride across a variety of surfaces, and categories.
A fast-changing landscape
As cycling moves towards wider tyres – the current TdF leader riding a 30mm tyre which measures 33mm when mounted – and more versatile mixed-terrain bikes, the old rules that defined riding categories are merging.
It’s here that Fizik is following this discipline-blending trend, with the Beat – a shoe designed specifically for riders who seamlessly ride on smooth tarmac and light gravel tracks.
Positioned as the most versatile in Fizik’s entire range – this required the brand to revisit the classic considerations of a road shoe and redefined them with the development of Beat.
New outsole
Combining the reliability and walkability of an SPD outsole with the sleek look of a road aesthetic, the Beat features a sleek design that hides a two-bolt cleat track.
With a stiffness index of 4 (Fizik rates shoes up to 10, typically reserved for its pro level, performance-focused, road shoes), the road-style SPD outsole balances both comfort and good pedalling efficiency — responsive for when you need a burst of speed but forgiving enough to help you forget the bumps and buzz of rougher surfaces.
Generous toe box
The Beat features a completely new shape, with a more spacious toe box and a simple lace-up closure system. This combines with a soft fabric upper, designed to wrap around the cyclist’s foot, for support, while providing a secure and pressure-free fit, optimal for those days when riders are keen to keep riding for longer.
