Specialized opens new North American office and distribution centre in Salt Lake City

Specialized has announced the opening of a new North American office and distribution centre located in Salt Lake City, Utah.

For more than 25 years, Salt Lake City has been home to Specialized’s North America distribution centre.

The geographically central location allows for more efficient distribution as well as access to a strong local Salt Lake City talent pool.

The new state of the art 587,000 sq ft facility effectively doubles the size of Specialized’s previous distribution centre and will employ 120 Specialized representatives managing North American distribution, quality control, service, warranty, and technical education classes.

“We are committed to serving our riders and retailers with a premium experience,” said David Wood, senior director operations North America at Specialized Bicycle Components.

“Our new hub will unite internal teams and enhance our ability to innovate and get more riders on bikes.

”Our decision to stay in Salt Lake City renews our investment in improving quality and service levels to our USA and Canadian based riders.”

The brand celebrates 50 years in business this year and is doubling down on its commitment to the North American market.

Founded in 1974, by Mike Sinyard, the roots of the brand can be traced back to Sinyard selling his VW bus to ride through Europe.

During the ride, he seized the opportunity to import hard-to-get parts into the USA. The rest is history.

In the beginning he made a conscious decision to focus on the rider’s need for technically advanced products that provide a performance benefit.

Fast forward to 1976 and the Specialized Touring tyre was born, the brand’s first product and the first high-performance clincher on the market.

The 1980s saw Specialized create many of the products synonymous with the brand today including Allez and Stumpjumper.
