Decathlon UK has announced its latest partnership with Cycling UK, focused on a commitment to make cycling accessible to people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities – inspiring people across the UK to rediscover the joys of cycling.
To celebrate the announcement, ‘Be a Bike Hero’ will launch as a social media competition, encouraging people to do something great in their communities during Bike Week.
‘Be a Bike Hero’ could be anything from replacing a short car journey with a bike, inspiring friends to join to teaching kids – as long as it benefits people by saving money, being good for the planet or reducing stress levels.
A winner will be selected for each social channel from photos tagged with #BeaBikeHero and #BikeWeek, with prizes from Decathlon.
Cycling UK
With a legacy of championing cycling for over 140 years, the charity aims to enable millions more to cycle. In line with this mission, Cycling UK members can now enjoy an exclusive 10% discount on a curated selection of cycling equipment, clothing, and accessories when shopping online at Decathlon.
Talking about the partnership, Katie Legg, commercial director at Cycling UK, said: “Together with Decathlon UK, we are excited to make cycling a more affordable and accessible way to get around for people of all backgrounds and abilities.
“Bike Week is the perfect time to get inspired to cycle more, whether it’s commuting, popping to the shops, taking the kids to school, competing or exploring our countryside, we are excited to see what people chose to highlight.
“We see the positive impact that cycling has on lives and communities through our behaviour change programmes and charitable work, every day. Through this partnership, we hope to encourage more people to live healthier, happier and greener lives.”

In addition to this, Decathlon also offers a rental service from all of its UK stores, enabling people looking to ride without the commitment of having to buy a bike outright.
Committed to circular business practices, Decathlon’s team of experts also refurbish pre-loved bikes, so they can be offered to customers at prices even kinder to the pocket, with more than 10,000 second-life products saved from going to landfill to date.
Supplementing this is a BuyBack service, where customers can trade in their old sports equipment in exchange for gift cards to spend at Decathlon, reducing waste and resource consumption.
