Fizik has announced the launch of the Tempo Overcurve R5 Paris 1969, a “stylish and versatile road cycling shoe that evokes a golden age of bike racing while still delivering the comfort and performance demanded by today’s rider”.
It was inspired by the cycling shoe designs of the late 1960s and early 1970s racing and is based on the Tempo Overcurve R5 shoe. It has a main upper made of black Microtex suede, featuring large perforation holes in a wide pattern. Covering the toe and eyestay areas is a leather-look Microtex section that is die cut in a zig-zag pattern.
The shoe also features a staggered collar that wraps around the ankle, tracing the natural misalignment of the ankle’s two bony protrusions. The result is an asymmetrical shape, with the throat of the shoe curving over the foot from its outside to its inner side. It also has a micro-adjustable Boa IP1 dial and a Velcro strap.
“The era of the late 1960s and early 1970s was an incredible time for cycle racing, with helmet-less riders performing heroic feats on beautifully simple steel-framed bikes. For the Tempo Overcurve R5 Paris 1969, it’s a time that was defined by dramatic battles on the biggest races like La Grande Boucle between strong riders who wore designs as memorable as their achievements and names,” the brand said.
