Fizik has unveiled the next generation of its popular Powerstrap Aeroweave – a pure road racing shoe which is the lightest and most breathable in its range.
Comprising a tough and ventilated net-like upper and the brand’s stiffest carbon outsole, the Powerstrap Aerowave is designed for “road warriors who like to ride fast, whether that’s on the smoothest tarmac or the most demanding pavé”.
Lightweight and breathable
In the pursuit of reducing weight and increasing ventilation whilst retaining support and protection, Fizik’s designers and engineers developed an entirely new material – Aeroweave.
Now in its second iteration, this unique woven fabric interlaces nylon fibres with filaments of thermoplastic polymers to produce an even lighter shoe that reportedly doesn’t compromise its original durability, providing the strength and support required for elite competition.
Customised fit and compression
While most Velcro closures simply pull together both sides of a shoe’s upper, the Powerstrap Aeroweave incorporates a ribbon which wraps around the foot, providing ultra-secure containment using just two straps.
The instep and the midfoot are individually adjustable to enable a customised fit and compression, and with this latest release, the straps have been streamlined to make them both lighter and stronger.
Maximising power transfer
The Powerstrap Aeroweave features an entirely new R3 outsole which has been produced with an updated carbon fibre layup and design to save weight without compromising on stiffness.
With an index of 10, the shoe provides maximum power transfer, whilst temperature regulation has also been enhanced by two wide vent inlets and deep internal channelling which produce a cooling airflow.
As with all the latest Fizik shoe models, the R3 outsole offers recessed cleat positioning developed to optimize pedalling efficiency and reduce knee compression and is said to be ideally suited for riders who prefer more aggressive, aero positions.
