Hiplok joins Secured by Design

Hiplok, the security brand for motorcycles, e-bikes, and bicycles, has joined Secured by Design.

Established in 2009, Hiplok launched the world’s first wearable bike lock in 2011, the Sold Secure rated Hiplok Original. In 2021, the company unveiled the original anti-angle grinder lock, the D1000. In 2023, it introduced 1000 Series, a range of angle grinder-resistant locks and ground/wall anchors that form the ultimate security system.

Co-founders Ben Smith and John Abrahams are product designers by trade and cyclists by heart.

With more than 25 years combined design and cycle industry experience, they set out to change security for cyclists.

They wanted to protect what they love by bringing their design expertise and rider experience to deliver innovative, high-quality locks and accessories that protect bikes and the joy of riding.

Smith commented: “Joining Secured by Design underscores our commitment to providing practical security solutions for riders worldwide. Our growing range of innovative, quality locks and security products are designed to keep bikes safe and ensure peace of mind.”

Secured by Design, which celebrates its 35th anniversary in 2024, operates an accreditation scheme on behalf of the UK Police Service for products or services that have met recognised security standards.

These products or services – which must be capable of deterring or preventing crime – are known as being of a ‘Police Preferred Specification’.

Hundreds of companies produce over 7,000 individual attack-resistant crime prevention products in more than 30 different categories that have met the exacting Police Preferred Specification.

These include doors, windows, external storage, bicycle and motorcycle security, locks and hardware, asset marking, alarms, CCTV, safes, IoT-connected products, perimeter security products, and many others.

Secured by Design is the only way companies can obtain police recognition for security-related products in the UK.

Doug Skins, of Secured by Design, added: “Unfortunately, bike theft has become a lucrative avenue for many criminals, with tens of thousands of bikes stolen across the UK annually.

“I am delighted that Hiplok has joined Secured by Design, adding to the range of products that have been tested and certified to meet the exacting standards you would expect from the police.

“The knowledge and expertise the Hiplok team has is shown with the product range they offer, and I look forward to working with them over the coming years.”
