DT Swiss has introduced an all-new wheelset in the form of the F 1900 Classic, aimed at privateer racers and bike park shredders.
The wheelset gets a new rim, based on the latest generation of the Swiss brands’ downhill rims, coupled with the tried-and-true DT Swiss ratchet hub, brought together to offer a wheel designed to take the kind of beating dished out through numerous bike park laps.
Increased impact resistance + better pinch flat protection
Calling on years of experience and knowledge in aluminium rim development the DT Swiss engineers have been able to develop a more impact-resistant rim.
To achieve this the brand reports it was necessary to use a different profile design than its current freeride and downhill wheelset, the FR 1950 Classic. The profile of the F 1900 Classic rim – specifically developed for freeride and downhill –Â focuses on delivering the strength and durability which riders demand.
The F 1900 Classic rim also benefits from a specific feature particularly adapted to its field of use: Increased protection against punctures by pinching.
This feature comes in the form of a new shape to the rim hooks, where the upper part has been widened. It is this section of sidewall that comes into contact with the tyre during compression, and, in many cases, pierce the carcass, causing air loss. DT Swiss engineers report that widening and re-orientating this surface allows the shocks to be distributed over a wider area, thus reducing the risk of punctures.
Hub and spokes: Engineered for park life
The F 1900 Classic features a reliable 370 hub equipped with the DT Swiss Ratchet LN system. The arrangement of the Ratchet LN components corresponds to that of the Ratchet System. However, for the F 1900 Classic, there is a difference in the 370 hub axle axle. The Ratchet LN axle is not machined, which makes it more durable, it also means the system becomes heavier.
The F 1900 Classic is built with DT competition spokes which are reinforced by the patented cold forging process. Double-butted spokes are also lighter than constant diameter spokes, saving weight on the wheelset, whilst also ensuring they are ready to resist long park laps.
DT Swiss is distributed in the UK by Madison. Stock of the F 1900 Classic will be available at launch. Also available will be two new rims, the E 593 and F 572.
