Lightweight launch the new Fernweg Evo Pro wheelset

German carbon fibre specialists Lightweight has launched the new Fernweg Evo Pro wheelset, with the headline-grabbing news that the new wheelset is 130g lighter than the current Fernweg Evo.

The Fernweg Evo Pro features an aerodynamic, high-profile rim design, available in two sizes, 63mm and 85mm, and is UCI-compliant.

Developed in the wind tunnel to reduce drag, whilst also minimising the type of crosswind sensitivity – something which is often found in deep section rims – the new Fernweg Evo Pro wheelset is said to provide a smooth and reliable ride, even in gusty conditions.

Key details

  • 1565g for the Fernweg Evo Pro 63
  • 1665g for the Fernweg Evo Pro 85
  • 24mm width rims
  • Tubeless compatible
  • Permissible total system weight: 100 kilograms.

Lightweight states that, the 130g reduction in weight does not impact ride quality or performance capability, with the launch announcement pointing to no sacrifice in stiffness, responsiveness, or strength.

Pentagon SL hubs

The Fernweg Evo Pro is built around the brand’s Pentagon SL hub and comes fitted with CeramicSpeed bearings as standard.

Of that hub, in the SL spec, the total weight has been reduced by 70 grams (per set), as well as being further optimised aerodynamically.

The brand also points out that, through design, heat transfer from the brake disc onto the hub is dissipated. Keeping with this focus on heat, and its transfer, additional form closure by the hub housing ensures a safe power flow from the tyre to the brake disc. This, the brand claims, increases safety, particularly on longer descents.

Handmade in Germany

While the characteristic hand-crafted nature of all Lightweight wheels stands as a testament to quality German manufacturing, the brand does also point out that subtle cosmetic variations are naturally present. Carbon in its raw, structural, form doesn’t always mean uniformity of finish when weight is the primary focus.

Both Fernweg Evo Pro 63 and Fernweg Evo Pro 85 models share a £8799 RRP.

In the UK Lightweight products are distributed by Windwave.
