FixX is a community enterprise run by Working Young CIC that repairs second-hand bikes with young people in Hartcliffe. Through FixX we build confidence, purpose and resilience to support young people into sustainable employment in an area that has some of the worst employment and skills deprivation in the country. We are looking for an experienced, qualified bicycle mechanic that can help us develop our social enterprise. It is a varied role working in our community shop carrying out repair work to a high standard and refurbishing second-hand bikes for sale as well as teaching bicycle mechanics to our young people. The ideal candidate will have great mechanical skills with a sound practical knowledge of the bike industry. The role involves developing our different income streams, promoting second-hand bike sales, repairs, training courses, and merchandise to make us non-grant dependent. We are looking for a reliable professional that acts as a role model and inspiration for young people and volunteers. The right person will be a passionate individual keen to improve themselves and the organisation who can work alongside our workshop manager and youth worker developing our exciting community enterprise. Responsibilities Receiving and sorting donations Preparing bikes for courses Planning and delivering bike mechanics sessions with young people Collecting feedback and supporting evaluation of our work Coordinating and supporting volunteers Checking bikes refurbished by young people are ready for sale Refurbishing bikes for sale Supporting and developing trainee mechanics Dealing with customer queries directly and via email/phone/social media Booking in and undertaking repair work to a high standard Handling customer transactions Ordering and replenishing stock as necessary and general retail practices Recording sales and servicing using spreadsheets Ensuring the shop and surrounding area is kept clean, tidy and welcoming Opening and locking up workshop Developing future courses Essential Requirements 2 years’ bike shop experience Excellent mechanical skills Enthusiasm for the project and mission Good listening and communication skills Self-motivation Punctuality, reliability and professionalism Able to work independently Creativity and adaptability Desire to commit to the project for at least two years Desirable requirements Cytech or similar qualification Experience of workshop development Experience of working with teenagers / young adults Experience of working/living in Hartcliffe Experience of working with volunteers Experience of community engagement/involvement Experience of partnership working Knowledge & understanding of retail and business admin Salary: £24,500 – £26,500 (depending on experience) Hours: Options for 4-5 days per week.
