Riese and Müller receives German Sustainability Award

Riese and Müller have been awarded the German Sustainability Award in the “Two-Wheelers” corporate category.

The prize, considered Europe’s most important award for ecological and social commitment, has been awarded by the German Sustainability Award Foundation since 2008, honouring companies that make particularly effective and successful contributions to the sustainable transformation of the economy.

“It is great that we have won the German Sustainability Award. The award shows that we have achieved our Vision 2025 and is a reward for our hard work on the topic of social-ecological transformation,” says Dr Sandra Wolf, managing partner of Riese and Müller.

The award is seen as confirmation that Riese and Müller are on their way to becoming the most sustainable company in the e-bike industry by 2025.

The business set itself the goal, in 2019, and has been working on extensive sustainability projects since then – on the campus in Mühltal, along the supply chain and in logistics, in product design and the manufacturing process.

Wolf further comments: “The process that has begun is a mammoth task. The award motivates us all the more to continue on our path and make a real difference.”

Vision 2025: The most sustainable company in the e-bike industry

Riese and Müller set itself the goal of becoming the most sustainable company in the e-bike industry back in 2019. Since then, the e-bike manufacturer from Mühltal in Hesse has worked on extensive sustainability projects – at its own location, along the supply chain and in logistics, in product design and the manufacturing process. The following milestones have been achieved, among others:

  • Continuous reduction of total emissions and product-related emissions
  • Transparent supply chain and audits of suppliers
  • Zero Waste and Zero Emission projects at the site
  • use of reusable transport packaging
  • Circular Design as a guiding principle of product development
  • Use of ASI-certified recycled aluminium
  • Certification according to ISO 14001 (environmental management)

The award ceremony for the German Sustainability Award for Companies will take place on Thursday, 28 November 2024, in Düsseldorf.
