The Press Gazette claims that Fotheringham is leaving because freelance contributors to ProCycling haven’t been paid.
Cabal’s MD, Andy Sutcliffe, denied this and said Fotheringham was leaving to further his career at The Guardian (where he’s already the cycling correspondent) and will continue to contribute to ProCycling.
The Press Gazette says it has talked to a number of ProCycling contributors who claim payment is dreadfully slow despite numerous complaints.
The trade rumour that Future (which recently closed Total Mountain Bike) is about to buy Maximum Mountain Bike or other Cabal titles is denied by Jane Ingham, MD of Future.
MMB is currently seen by many trade commentators to be the best mountain bike magazine on the market at present but, with it missing a January issue and having published late issues, there is growing speculation that the title could be suffering financially. It is also produced by a very small staff and Guy Kesteven, the editor, is clearly working himself into the ground to keep up the high editorial standards.
Cabal say they are always open to offers on any of their magazines.
