MiRider introduce all-new 24inch wheel step through e-bike

In response to retailer requests, the Wigan-based team behind MiRider have introduced an all-new 24-inch wheel-sized e-bike to the brand’s range.

A two-year project, designed from the ground up, the all-new MiRider 24 is a compact, step-through e-bike that is aimed at leisure riders and commuters alike.

The vision

With the brand having optimised its 16-inch lightweight folder, the team spent time studying the market and canvassing its 200+ strong dealer network. Feedback said that a MiRider-style step-through e-bike was called for. The critical element here was continuing the brand DNA, which meant a fun, lightweight and agile bike which has character, and pushed boundaries.

The end result of two years of work

  • The all-new MiRider 24 e-bike, is available in two matt metallic colours: Ember Orange and Onyx Grey.
  • From launch, customers can choose from a single-speed version or the GB3 version, which incorporates a G3ARED three-speed gearbox and a Gates Drive Belt system.
  • Both models come with a comprehensive two-year warranty.

The step-through aluminium frame tips the scales at 21kg (with battery), making it lightweight for a bike of its kind, whilst offering riders a stable, safe platform.

Thanks to what MiRider calls “shortened wheelbase geometry”, the MiRider 24 is also reported to have a compact turning circle, making it easier to manoeuvre – something which can aid in building rider confidence, and an important attribute for urban riding.

Common MiRider elements

Sharing space-saving elements from MiRider’s 16in range, such as a folding handlebar stem, pedals and removable saddle stem, makes for compact stowage (30cm) at home or on the go. The bikes are also specifically designed for motorhome garage spaces at just 86cm high and are equally happy on cycle racks.

The bike is equipped with 24-inch wheels fitted with MiR-T Original road tyres and features a geometry that allows for a rider height range from 152cm (five feet) to 193cm (six feet four inches). Maximum rider weight is 120kg.

“The MiRider One and MiRider One GB3 have always been hand-assembled at our facility in Wigan,” said Martin Higginson, marketing director. “The MiRider 24 will utilise the same production facility and highly trained operatives to guarantee the same levels of quality that MiRider has built its reputation upon.”

Hardware, range, and charging time

The MiRider 24 is controlled by the exclusive to MiRider 36v MIDRIVE electric drive system, featuring a 250w silent-running rear hub-mounted motor and a thumb-operated ‘Boost control’ option, all powered by a Samsung 10.5aH 378Wh battery. Key systems stats:

  • Up to 65 miles (100kms) on a single charge
  • A full charge in between 2.5 and 3 hours using the 3A MiRider charger supplied as standard.
  • Charge status lights integrated into a lockable, and removable, unit for maximum convenience and security.

Accessories

With bigger journeys possible, MiRider has equipped the 24 with two rack mounting points – a 25kg loading rear carrier and a front 10kg loading bag rack are available.

Also available is a seat post mount for bottle cages, air pumps, locks or tools.

Pricing and Availability

The MiRider 24 will debut at the National Cycling Show, Birmingham NEC Saturday, June 15, and Sunday, June 16, with bikes being available from the end of June.

Both models have a matt metallic paint finish with an RRP of £1,995 for the MiRider 24, while the MiRider 24 GB3 has an RRP of £2,995.

Bikes will arrive with customers in 100% plastic-free, fully recyclable, packaging – fully assembled and ready to ride.
