TrainingPeaks launches Virtual riding

TrainingPeaks has announced the acquisition of the virtual cycling platform indieVelo, now known as TrainingPeaks Virtual.

In sharing the news, the announcement states “with community-friendly features, realistic racing physics, and a focus on credibility, it will take your indoor rides to the next level.” So far, so Zwift sounding, which for many will be no bad thing.

The announcement continues “Now you’ll be able to organize virtual group rides, host races, and encourage your athletes to train all year long—all within the TrainingPeaks ecosystem.”

IndieVelo background

IndieVelo was founded in June of 2023 by George Gilbert, a University of Cambridge graduate with a PhD in Astrophysics. Gilbert had previously worked for Zwift, with more than three years as chair, Zwift Cycling eSports Commission.

Outside of eSports, it will come as little surprise to find out that Gilbert’s professional experience includes a 20-plus year career in IT, holding senior positions, at a global level, for software solutions businesses including Microsoft.

For those not familiar with indieVelo, Ray Maker, better known as DC Rainmaker, has taken a good look and has plenty to say:

An established platform with a strong feature set
