For the first time – KICKR CORE Zwift One and Zwift Cog & Click are available exclusively via Wahoo Retailers globally.

BikeBiz takes a closer look at the range…

Wahoo Fitness, the leading fitness technology company for endurance athletes, has announced an exciting new initiative.

As part of the brand’s developing partnership with Zwift, KICKR CORE Zwift One and Zwift Cog and Click have been made available exclusively via Wahoo Retailers globally.

Previously, these Zwift products were only available to buy directly, online.

What are Zwift Cog and Click?

Compatible only with Zwift, Zwift Cog is a single sprocket designed to fit most 8-12 speed bikes, simplifying your setup by eliminating the need to swap cassettes. For retailers it reduces the need to carry a number of SKUs and results in a quicker turnover of stock. And for consumers, switching between bikes is simple with seamless compatibility and no need for additional setup. Zwift Cog makes getting into Zwift easier and more accessible

Pair Zwift Cog with Zwift Click, a compact wireless controller, and you unlock the power of virtual shifting.

Zwift Click allows you to shift gears directly in-game without touching your bike’s physical drivetrain. Mount it anywhere that feels natural—drop bars, aero bars, or flat bars—giving you full control of your ride with the click of a button.

What are Virtual Gears?

Virtual gears allow you to simulate gear changes without the need to touch your physical gears. Using Zwift Click or Zwift Play Controllers, you can shift through 24 virtual gears, instantly and silently.

This ensures smooth, responsive shifting whether you’re tackling a steep climb or sprinting to the finish. Plus, virtual shifting keeps your ride quiet and eliminates the wear and tear on your drivetrain.

Why Zwift Cog is the heart of the Zwift ecosystem

At the core of Zwift’s hardware ecosystem, Zwift Cog is the key to unlocking Zwift’s most advanced features. It works seamlessly with Zwift Click and Zwift Play to deliver precise, in-game gear shifts that adapt to your ride.

Its adjustable sprocket alignment ensures optimal chain alignment, reducing noise and providing a smoother riding experience no matter what bike you are riding.

But Zwift Cog does more than simplify your setup—it’s designed for versatility. Compatible with most 8-12 speed drivetrains, Zwift Cog makes switching between bikes effortless, saving you from the hassle of changing cassettes.

And if you decide to upgrade to the Zwift Ride Smart Frame, Zwift Cog integrates flawlessly, future-proofing your setup for the next stage of your Zwift journey.

Why upgrade to Zwift Cog and Click?

Streamlined Setup: Zwift Cog eliminates the worry of choosing the right cassette, working with most 8-12 speed bikes to make trainer setup a breeze, including MTB and older bikes. Whether you’re riding your summer bike or winter bike, it’s all plug-and-play.

Enhanced Experience: With Zwift Click, you unlock 24 virtual gears—silent, instant, and efficient. Forget about mechanical shifting and enjoy seamless gear changes right in the game.

Future-Proofing: As your Zwift setup evolves, Zwift Cog is designed to grow with you. Whether you add Zwift Play controllers or upgrade to the Zwift Ride Smart Frame, your Zwift Cog will integrate flawlessly, making it the foundation of your indoor cycling ecosystem.

Compatibility

As of October 2024, Zwift Cog and Click is fully compatible with: Wahoo KICKR CORE Zwift One, Wahoo KICKR, Wahoo KICKR Move, Jetblack Victory, Van Rysel D100 (version sold with Click and Cog only), and the Elite Direto XR (version sold with Click and Cog only).

Consumers are advised to look for the ‘Zwift Ready’ logo on their trainer to ensure compatibility with Zwift’s hardware and virtual shifting features.

A Zwift Ready trainer means it’s optimised for seamless performance with Zwift Cog and Zwift Click. This certification is traditionally on the packaging or product page of the respective trainer.

Zwift Cog and Click are more than just gear-shifting tools—they represent the future of smart indoor cycling.

Whether simplifying a trainer setup or enhancing a ride with silent virtual gears, Zwift Cog and Click transform the user experience.

This exciting news comes at the peak of the Northern Hemisphere’s Winter season 2024/25, adding to Wahoo’s ‘best in class’ range of products at retail and offering an unrivalled range of price points, value and customer choice.

Zwift Cog and Click retails at £79.99, with the KICKR CORE Zwift One available for £449.99.

Now in the twelfth year of leading innovation in the bike lock market, UK-based Hiplok are not taking their foot off the pedal. From the original wearable bike lock over a decade ago, to the introduction in 2021 of the world’s first anti-angle grinder bike lock, beating the thief has always been, and remains, top priority. Ahead of COREbike, Hiplok co-founder Ben Smith takes us through the extensive 2023 Hiplok line-up and explains how the brand’s Flagship Store Program, available through ZyroFisher, is helping retailers find the best security offering for their customers.

Heading into 13 years of Hiplok, is it going to be an unlucky one for the bike thief?
We think so! The biggest trend in bike theft over the past few years has been the widespread use of battery powered angle grinders.

With the delivery of D1000 last spring, the tide has already started to turn and there is more development to come. D1000 contains a unique composite material which actually destroys angle grinder blades, meaning that it stands up to grinders over 20-times longer than standard D-locks.

Why has the D1000 been so popular?
The most obvious answer is that as the value of bikes is increasing, people need better security to protect them. There’s also a growing importance of bicycles as essential transport in people’s lives with e-bikes and cargo bikes replacing cars in daily journeys.

Ultimately, cyclists recognise that the D1000’s security performance is so far beyond that of a standard lock that it is worth paying the extra for, to avoid both the financial impact as well as hassle of replacing their bike.

What will be the big trends in cycling this year?
The cost of living will undoubtedly affect non-essential spend in new bikes with many people now choosing to commute and ride for leisure on the same bicycle. This trend has been important in the development of our new folding lock – Hiplok SWITCH, which is ideal for the everyday rider wanting to use their bike around town as well as on the gravel trails.

The new Hiplok SWITCH Folding Lock with
unique SWITCH plate system

What’s unique about Hiplok SWITCH?
SWITCH is a compact Sold Secure rated folding lock which can be worn or mounted on the bike. As with many folding locks it provides a longer 85cm locking length but folds into a compact package and weighs only 1kg, making it easy to take with you.

But what makes SWITCH truly unique is its SWITCH plate system which comes with bracket and bottle attachment meaning that you can seamlessly switch from carrying lock or bottle on your bike. The 2023 line-up offers the most extensive range of security ever seen from Hiplok.

Hiplok’s Flagship Store Program supports
IBDs in selling the brand

How are you supporting retailers in offering Hiplok as their principal security brand in store?
With ZyroFisher, we continue to successfully roll out the Hiplok Flagship Store Program, which was introduced prior to the pandemic with the aim of supporting the best UK IBDs in showcasing the full range of Hiplok products in store.

The program supports brand loyal retailers in offering the full Hiplok range with improved margin and payment terms along with FOC marketing and display materials. Flagship store retailers are also prioritised for new product launches, such as D1000.

Hiplok’s 2023 line-up will be on display on the ZyroFisher Stand at COREbike. For more information and to discuss becoming a Hiplok Flagship Store, please contact your ZyroFisher account manager or call the ZyroFisher team on +44 (0) 1325 741 325.

As consumer habits shift increasingly towards sustainable buying, German cycling and outdoor brand VAUDE sets out how it is taking concrete action to make the world a greener place

The adoption of sustainable lifestyles is on the rise. Shopping habits are changing, with the consumer favouring product longevity, timeless gear, and easily repairable materials. Brand adaptation is key – not only to feed the buying habits of consumers, but most importantly to protect the planet that we love exploring.

At VAUDE, sustainable outfitter for bike and outdoor sports, we know how important it is to take environmental and social factors into account for everything we do. Our HQ has been Climate Neutral since 2012, and since January 2022 VAUDE has been climate neutral with all products worldwide.

Our family-run business was formed nearly 50 years ago near the Alps, with bike sports products coming in 1992. Less than a decade later, we were the first outdoor company to produce an entire product range under the strict environmental bluesign® standards (which we still abide by today) and 10 years after that we had successfully launched our own Green Shape standard that you can find across our VAUDE Bike product range. It’s proof that outdoor gear shouldn’t be a burden to the environment, instead eco-friendly, fair, and functional.

VAUDE GREEN SHAPE LABEL

Our team at VAUDE takes pride in knowing we take concrete action and accountability; we know that every social movement begins with someone taking that first step. It starts with less waste used during production and ends with knowing the product can be easily recycled at the end of its life, and not skipping the parts between. Our Green Shape label is comprehensive and rigorous, and our standard for outdoor products.

In order to earn the VAUDE Green Shape label, a product must consist of more than 50% bio-based or recycled materials. This climate friendly alternative sees natural products such as hemp or organic cotton used, or bio-based plastic and Nylon. Bio-based plastics use castor oil instead of petroleum, which doesn’t compete with the food chain and grows without supplemental irrigation and on poor soil. Incredibly, we’ve found that bio-based Nylon is lighter, absorbs less moisture, and is stronger than conventional Nylon – a win for the planet, and increases the longevity of our products.

In keeping with the circular economy, we opt for recycled materials – polyamide from post-consumer tires, and recycled household packaging – which all goes into the creation of yarns, zips, and buttons. The bluesign® system helps us achieve energy efficient processing for our Green Shape products, all without the need for harmful substances. We know these products are made to last and can easily be repaired, if necessary, with replacement parts available.

Fair working conditions are not determined by where a textile is manufactured – but how. Fair wages – living wage, not minimum wage – and working conditions are ensured throughout all our factories, monitored by independent Fair Wear auditors.  We have a very high level of commitment to fair working conditions, and we want that to positively influence others to do the same.

“Climate change is man-made; it is we humans who must take countermeasures. The time for decisive, collective action is now” – Antje von Dewitz, CEO VAUDE

CONNECTION TO NATURE

Being in the outdoor industry, it’s important that we have a connection to nature. We want to help protect and conserve the places we adventure to. We have partnered with professionals in nature conservation, from European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA) to the Fundatia ADEPT that, as well as many other things, works tirelessly to maintain mountain bike trails and collect litter along the Scroafa Valley in Transylvania. Closer to home, we have a living roof on our VAUDE Manufaktur building in Germany and uncovered 1,500 square metres of parking space at our HQ, turning it into a wild meadow full of local plant life. At our HQ we use 100 % green electricity from renewable sources, largely through our own photovoltaic systems on our company roofs.

VAUDE headquarters in Obereisenbach, southern Germany

What’s the part of our sustainability journey that we’re most proud of? As a sustainable pioneer, we have built up a profound and recognised expertise that has encouraged us to establish our own VAUDE Academy, which supports the process towards sustainable management for other companies through university lectures, workshops, and individual advice. We take the knowledge we have learned, and are still learning, and inspire others to develop sustainably. After all, it’s not a competition but rather a team sport.

On 26th May 2022, Magene released L508 radar tail light, becoming the second brand after Garmin to offer a tail light product with radar. In July, Magene listed the L508 on its official website and Facebook feeds and it is now available for purchase on multiple selling platforms, wholesale to dealers and distributors.

Based on its self-developed technology, Magene Technology has a wide range of cycling products, including bike trainers, power meters, bike computers, sensors and radar tail lights. As Hector Dong, Magene’s product director, said at the launch event: “Cycling safety deserves effort from more brands.” The release of L508 radar tail light is a further innovation brought by Magene. For riders, Magene represents greater choice for radar tail lights.

Magene L508 radar tail light gives visual and audible alerts on the display terminal to warn riders about approaching cars from behind, up to 140 meters away and at 10-120km/h relative speed. When a vehicle suddenly moves from behind within 140 meters, L508 can turn into flashing mode to give a stronger warning. The product is also compatible with Garmin, Wahoo, Magene, and Bryton bike computers and watches.

The radar tail light is also equipped with a high-precision acceleration sensor, to swiftly detect even slight braking and trigger three seconds of highlight flashing, while normal oscillation and small bumps won’t trigger false alarms. The light also supports five light modes including solid, flashing, pulse, peloton and only-radar modes. After connecting the device to the Magene Utility App, users are able to customise the interval time and flashing pattern.

The device also supports vibration sensing, and automatically enters sleep mode after five minutes in idle state to save energy and wakes up when the bicycle is in use, extending the battery life to up to 16 hours. The L508 has a suggested retail price of  $129 (USD) and is available now for consumers. UK and EU RRP coming soon.

It’s no secret, two years into the Covid-19 pandemic, that micromobility has been transforming our cities one e-vehicle at a time. There is still a long way to go to achieve significant lower emissions and widespread car-free zones, but one of the most sustainable solutions is rising in an unprecedented way – e-bikes.

Built for city riding and hobby cycling alike, e-bikes have shown to be one of the preferred mobility solutions for councils and users of shared mobility services alike.

For shared mobility users, e-bikes are especially attractive because they are a much more familiar concept than e-scooters, and unlike e-mopeds or electric cars they don’t need a driving license to use one. Add to that, the fact that e-bikes are relatively easy to drive, allow for covering significant distances with way less effort (thanks, lithium-ion batteries) and that riders can complete journeys up to 1.5 times faster than on a mechanical bike, and it’s easy to see why they are so popular.

E-bikes are also an attractive prospect for city authorities that are focused on decreasing emissions and offering new means of transport to citizens. They are a key part of a sustainable and holistic mobility solution for cities worldwide. E-bikes can be integrated with regular bike share, or as flexible, longer-term rental schemes to encourage modal shift from cars. This means that cities can be persuaded to back and support your shared mobility service if it includes e-bikes.

As Wunder Mobility launches its brand new sharing e-bike onto the market, let’s have a look at five factors influencing the growth of e-bike ridership right now. If you have, or are thinking about building an e-bike fleet, understanding the riders’ perspective will enable you to strengthen your marketing strategies and help you to build a highly successful e-bike sharing scheme.

  1. Post-pandemic reality

Over the last two years, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, public transport has shifted from being a default option in big cities to being perceived as a possible threat to one’s health.

At the beginning of 2021, 67% of Europeans were less likely to use this form of transport because they were worried about their health. For this reason, many cities invested heavily in new infrastructure and electric micromobility schemes, with which people could move freely on their own while respecting the environment. Aided by summer’s arrival and decreased concerns about public transport safety, the e-bike trend has proved itself as a valid alternative to cars and it’s safe to say that they’re here to stay.

  1. The weather doesn’t matter (as much!)

Whether you operate in London, Hamburg or LA, inclement weather can influence your e-bike riders to different extents. According to a year-long study conducted on e-bike ridership in Canada, occasional riders were more reluctant to leave their car at home on hard winter days; however, avid cyclists were more likely to ride in all weather conditions, arguing that e-bikes enable them to cope more easily with bad weather.

Since e-bikes are more stable and faster than mechanical bikes, it is not uncommon to see riders commuting through rainy and windy days, especially in cities where the weather changes rapidly. Equally, in hot weather, e-bikes can be ridden with less exertion.

  1. Sharing means more cyclists and more advocacy

Although e-bikes are now fully integrated into the urban mobility landscape, there are still some doubts regarding maintenance, storage, battery life and, most of all, price.

In fact, due to the different materials and technologies present in each e-bike, they are an expensive investment. This means that not only is it expensive for individual cyclists to buy an e-bike upfront, it’s also difficult for e-bike owners to leave their e-bikes anywhere while running errands, due to the risk of their bike getting stolen.

This is where the sharing perspective really comes into play. Using shared e-bikes gives riders all the benefits and erases the limitations of owning an e-bike, by giving people the opportunity to try it out without a significant upfront investment. The cost-effectiveness and on-demand nature offered by sharing schemes incentivises the use of different sustainable transport options and increases the lifetime of vehicles too, helping to reduce production.

  1. The “near me” factor

Accessibility is another factor to consider when thinking about e-bike ridership. In order to choose e-bikes as a better alternative to cars for short and medium-distance trips, citizens want to be able to access them in an uncomplicated way.

Whether you are considering a dock-based, free-floating or hybrid sharing system, it is important to think about how your area of operation will affect the ridership. According to multiple studies on the purpose of e-bike journeys, people find it easier to complete a succession of trips (i.e. home – work – market – daycare) on an e-bike and they use them for a wide variety of errands. Does your area of operation include schools, office buildings, public facilities and recreational sites? If not, it’s time to change that to capitalise on the present opportunity. One of the many advantages of Wunder Mobility’s software is that you can also add points of interest.

  1. Good for the planet; good for your health

E-bikes are increasingly seen as a ‘green option’ and this is a huge motivation for e-bike riders. According to a study conducted on e-bike and e-scooter users in Copenhagen and Stockholm, e-bike riders have a stronger environmental conscience and are more driven to use e-bikes because of their low impact compared to e-scooter riders.

Combined with other modes of sustainable transport, e-bikes contribute to strengthening a user’s commitment to a low-impact and healthier lifestyle. For this reason, it is important to build promotions and marketing campaigns that tap into this identity trait, especially for non e-bike users who have strong environmental motivations and might be encouraged to try them out.

How to choose the right e-bike

Once you have considered the factors affecting e-bike ridership, it’s time to evaluate the features of your current or soon-to-be fleet. If you are looking to scale up and offer your users an exceptional riding experience, Wunder Mobility and Yadea might just have the solution for you. Having established itself as a leading wholesaler in the motorbike market since its inception in 1956, British brand Feridax has proudly set out its stall in the MTB scene.

Spada, sister-brand of Feridax, offers a collection of protective performance wear for the mountain bike market, with availability being a high priority for the West Midlands-based clothing name.

After its founding in 1994 as a motorbike clothing brand, Spada has plans to establish itself as a rider-first name in the MTB market, working with its brand ambassadors and customers to improve and progress with its lines.

Currently Spada offers a full range of trail-inspired clothing, from jackets and jerseys down to socks and gloves, as well as launching its first helmet.

The national sales manager for Spada and Feridax is Stuart Swaby, former UK country director for Fox Racing, who supported the growth of Fox’s IBD network, growing the number of representing stores by more than 50% during his tenure.

“The eventual aim for the Spada MTB range is to offer product which covers the full spectrum of riders,” said Swaby, “from core/racer through to general participant and weekend warrior.

“Our immediate concentration is to set the foundation of the brand and our product range concentrating on the two largest segments of the market, being general participant and the weekend warrior.”

Spada is currently marketing its existing summer and spring range, which includes the Enduro Jacket, the Trail Long Sleeve jersey, the Black Route trouser, and the Howitzer helmet.

The brand also has plans for its autumn/winter ‘22 collection, launching in September.

To help spread the word, Spada has been marketing its lines both online and at real-world events, including the Malverns Classic Bike Festival in the west of England, and the Ard Rock MTB festival in Yorkshire.

Spada also has a bank of marketing assets to help support retailers stocking its lines.

Swaby added: “Our plan moving forward into 2023 is to split the range into three different product franchises. Each franchise will offer garments to suit the performance needs of the consumer from general riding/casual crossover products to high level dynamic performance garments, whilst continuing to remain true to our brand design pillars of aesthetics, safety and value for money.”

Spada also works closely with brand ambassadors to develop its products, including British professional 4x racer Scott Beaumont.

On his relationship with the brand, Beaumont said: “We’ve worked together now for three years and are excited to bring to market the clothing we’ve developed.

“It’s some of the lightest, least restrictive riding kit out there, durable and fade resistant. I couldn’t be more proud of it.”

Mountain bike personality and Spada ambassador Tommy Hype added: “I’m proper hyped to be representing them! I’ve been riding the kit for around four months now, and the quality is spot on. Keep an eye out for the waterproof jackets – they’re insane! It’s nice to see a homegrown brand competing with the big dogs.”
