Italian saddle brand Selle Italia has delved into its archives to create a rereleased version of two iconic saddles.

The legendary Turbo and Flite, two models that wrote the history of the Selle Italia brand, and accompanied the greatest cycling champions, are back as part of the brand’s Heritage collection.

Reintroduced in a version that is faithful to the original version, these iconic saddles, made of genuine leather, are designed for enthusiasts who would like to relive the emotions of the cycling of yesteryear.

Two saddles that tell the story of cycling, relaunched by Selle Italia in two re-editions almost identical to the iconic models of the 1980s and 1990s: Turbo and Flite.

Part of the Heritage collection, these new saddles combine classic and modern elements and pay homage to the Company’s roots and to the champions who chose them in the past. Made of genuine leather and in a totally black version, Turbo and Flite embody the spirit of cycling of the past.

Turbo 1980

Turbo was the first saddle manufactured by the Asolo-based Company used by a professional cyclist in the 1980s: Bernard Hinault turned it into a legendary model.

Turbo 1980 celebrates this history and re-proposes the original design of a model with a genuine leather cover and a FecAlloy rail. A unique version that revives the cycling of yesteryear with a contemporary reinterpretation.

Flite 1990

Launched for the first time in 1990, Flite was a real revolution in the world of saddles. It was the first product characterised by a design with an exposed rail, which influenced saddle design for future generations.

The Flite 1990 version keeps the minimalist style and slim silhouette and features the old Selle Italia logo, to celebrate the Company’s long history.

Handmade with genuine leather and titanium rails, it is the reinterpretation of an iconic model that is still used today by new champions.

Selle Italia has launched a Nubuck collection, featuring three of its best known profiles of saddles.

The special edition will be available on the Italian brand’s SLR, Flite, and Novus models.

A spokesperson for Selle Italia said: “The stunning and eye-catching material makes these saddles some of the most unique on the market. The nubuck material tells the story of your time on your bike as its appearance changes the more you ride it.

Selle Italia has launched the new X-Bow saddle for off-road riding.

Dedicated to the mountain biking, enduro, e-bike and gravel disciplines, X-Bow is the result of specific studies that led Selle Italia to patent an innovative rail fixing technique offering a series of new advantages. In the X-Bow, the rail is fixed in the rearmost part of the saddle, almost on the edge, freeing the part of the body on which the ischial bones and perineal areas press, in turn limiting the pressure exerted by these zones on the saddle.

The X-Bow rail also allows greater regulation of the saddle insofar as the new rail positioning technique allows a larger area on which to fix the saddle post. This means greater flexibility for the biker’s fit, said Selle Italia. The X-Bow also helps further cushion vibrations caused by rough terrain and the stresses typical of off-road disciplines, thanks to the presence of Shock-Absorbers between the rail and body.

The X-Bow is a short, neutrally shaped saddle with the rear part slightly raised for greater stability, and features a Soft-Tek covering. It is available in two versions – one with TI316 rail and one with Fec Alloy rail. Both models, each with different graphics, will be supplied only with a drilled body, but with the option for padding with or without the Superflow hole, and with a choice of size S or L.

It is a specific Watt saddle for the triple discipline, a model launched by Selle Italia at the beginning of 2020 and made in collaboration with the two-time winner of the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii, Patrick Lange.

The saddle will be available in two variants: Watt Kit Carbonio Superflow with carbon rail for maximum performance, and Watt Gel Superflow with TI316 rail and a layer of gel inside the padding, in the front area, for greater comfort.

Fabian Cancellara will be the new Selle Italia brand ambassador with a direct commitment to the development of new products.

The partnership will be extended also to all the Chasing Cancellara events and with a particular focus on supporting youth cycling through the Swiss Racing Academy.
